Moreover, the causal mechanism behind this link remains a subject of intense research. Some evidence suggests that seizures directly alter neural connectivity. Alternatively, epilepsy may serve as a marker for more extensive cortical damage. Regardless of the exact pathway, the presence of epilepsy should alert physicians to potential cognitive struggles.
