Additionally, another crucial addition to the PGI Chandigarh medical facilities is the new Mother and Child Care Centre. This massive five-storey, 430-bed facility cost approximately Rs 485 crore to build. It will become fully operational within this month. Interestingly, the centre recently attracted attention because advanced medical equipment worth Rs 150 crore sat idle inside. The Infosys Foundation generously donated this state-of-the-art equipment in 2024. Therefore, clinicians and patients are eagerly waiting for the formal inauguration to utilize these high-end systems.
In addition to these two large centres, the Prime Minister will unveil a newly constructed Critical Care Block. This facility will significantly strengthen the region's emergency and intensive care capacity. Furthermore, these clinical expansions will ease the heavy patient load on the main PGIMER building. In 2024, the Prime Minister completed a similar virtual event to launch a 100-bed satellite centre in Ferozepur.
