Clinicians often evaluate the long-term reliability of breast implants to ensure patient satisfaction and health. Recent findings from a retrospective cohort study provide crucial insights into the PERLE breast implant safety profile over a five-year period. This study monitored 738 patients who underwent primary or secondary bilateral breast augmentation and augmentation-mastopexy. Specifically, researchers followed 1,476 implants to assess complications and re-operation rates. The implants featured a unique surface roughness of 5 μm, designed to improve tissue integration.
The results highlighted remarkably low rates of major complications across various surgical planes. For example, the overall rate of capsular contracture per patient was only 0.5% in the augmentation group. Moreover, the per-implant rate for capsular contracture stood at just 0.3%. Notably, subfascial and submuscular placements showed zero cases of contracture during the five-year observation period. Consequently, these figures suggest that the shell architecture and gel cohesivity effectively mitigate common postoperative issues.
Data regarding re-operation rates provide a clear picture of clinical durability for surgeons and patients alike. The 5-year re-operation rate for implant-related complications was 2.5% for the augmentation group. In contrast, the augmentation-mastopexy group experienced a slightly higher complication rate of 5.5%. However, no cases of implant rupture or rippling occurred during the entire follow-up. Additionally, researchers reported no instances of Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL), which is a significant safety milestone.
Furthermore, the rate of implant malposition remained low at 0.7% for primary augmentations. These outcomes confirm that modern manufacturing techniques can improve the clinical course of aesthetic procedures. As a result, the PERLE implant demonstrates a safety profile that aligns with the highest standards in plastic surgery today.
Based on five-year clinical data, the risk is extremely low. The per-implant rate is approximately 0.3%, which is considered superior to many traditional textured or smooth implants.
No cases of BIA-ALCL or implant rupture were reported in the five-year follow-up study involving 1,476 implants, suggesting high long-term biocompatibility.
The re-operation rate for augmentation alone was 2.5% at five years. However, patients undergoing combined augmentation-mastopexy had a complication rate of 5.5%, reflecting the increased complexity of the procedure.
