Resveratrol is a well-known polyphenol found in grapes and berries that offers significant antioxidant and cardioprotective benefits. Because this compound is increasingly used in Indian nutraceuticals, a reliable resveratrol measurement method is essential for quality control and dietary verification. A recent study has introduced an innovative analytical approach called salt-saturated supramolecular solvent-assisted dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (SUPRAS-SS-DLLME). This technique significantly improves the ability of researchers to detect and quantify resveratrol in complex samples like grape juice and water.
The core of this new resveratrol measurement method lies in the self-assembly of amphiphilic molecules into supramolecular solvent architectures. By using a specific mixture of salts including NaCl, Mg(NO³)²·6H²O, and KNO³, the researchers achieved salt saturation in the aqueous phase. Consequently, this salt-induced reduction in analyte solubility led to a 30% increase in extraction efficiency compared to traditional salt-free methods. Furthermore, the optimized process demonstrated an impressive enrichment factor of 124, making it highly sensitive for detecting low concentrations of this health-promoting molecule.
Precision is vital when analyzing bioactive compounds in consumer products. The study utilized response surface methodology to optimize critical parameters like pH and solvent volume. Under these refined conditions, the method showed a linear response across a wide range of concentrations (10-5000 µg/L). Additionally, the limit of detection was recorded at a very low 1.6 µg/L. Therefore, this method provides a robust tool for ensuring that grape-based products meet the high standards required for therapeutic and nutritional use in India.
Accurate measurement ensures that food products and supplements contain the bioactive levels claimed on labels. Since resveratrol is linked to heart health and anti-inflammatory effects, precise quantification helps clinicians and consumers understand the true nutritional value of their intake.
Salt saturation reduces the solubility of resveratrol in water. This effectively "pushes" the resveratrol molecules into the extraction solvent. As a result, the recovery rate of the compound is much higher, allowing for more accurate laboratory determination.
