Researchers recently identified a novel neuron-enriched long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) named Neuid. This specific transcript plays a pivotal role in maintaining the integrity of brain cells. It also causes significant memory formation deficits in animal subjects. Conversely, researchers used CRISPRa technology to overexpress Neuid in Aβ42-treated neurons. This intervention successfully restored network function and neuronal plasticity. Thus, targeting this lncRNA could potentially reverse some aspects of AD pathology. Finally, these findings position Neuid as a promising biomarker and drug target.
