A study assessed whether OnabotulinumtoxinA (BoNT-A) treatment affects muscle properties in 22 chronic migraine cases. BoNT-A increased pain thresholds in certain muscles. Muscle relaxation did not appear to have anti-migraine effect. Findings suggest that BoNT-A leads to the desensitization of cutaneous & muscle nociceptors in the head & neck regions, whereas muscle relaxation might not be an important part of the anti-migraine effect.
