Consequently, scientists have developed innovative electroporation patches for arthritis to provide a breathable and stretchable solution for transdermal delivery.
The Breathable, Stretchable Electroporation Patch (BSEP) integrates screen-printed conductive ink on a non-woven fabric substrate. This specific design allows the patch to adhere comfortably to the skin even during joint movement. Furthermore, the unique serpentine interdigitated electrodes precisely localize electric fields within superficial skin layers. This precision reduces voltage exposure in deep tissues by 50%, which significantly minimizes potential damage or pain. Similarly, researchers confirmed the safety of these materials through extensive cytotoxicity and histological testing.
Notably, animal trials demonstrate that the BSEP achieves a two-to-threefold increase in skin penetration compared to traditional control patches.
