Recent evidence suggests that implementing a colorectal cancer screening SMS strategy can significantly boost participation rates in underserved populations. Therefore, non-invasive tests combined with digital reminders offer a viable solution for the Indian landscape.
Furthermore, the digital health infrastructure in India has expanded rapidly post-pandemic. Implementing SMS reminders through Primary Health Centers could help bridge the screening gap. This approach provides a low-cost, scalable method to reach rural and urban underserved communities effectively. Additionally, a tailored approach for vulnerable populations is necessary to overcome social and financial barriers to care.
The study suggested that the 6-week frequency might have caused message fatigue. When patients receive too many reminders, they may stop engaging with the content, leading to a ceiling effect in screening uptake.
