The COVID-19 pandemic caused significant disruptions in global education and social stability. Consequently, researchers now focus on adolescent mental health outcomes to understand the long-term psychological toll. Because this study examined learners in South Africa, the findings provide a vital lens for global health systems. Notably, these adolescents navigate the transition to adulthood during immense uncertainty. Therefore, clinical focus on this demographic is essential for future resilience.
Furthermore, researchers observed high levels of psychological distress within the study sample. For instance, 59% of participants reported clinically significant depressive symptoms. Additionally, 39% of the group suffered from severe anxiety. In addition, 35% exhibited symptoms of PTSD. Moreover, 13% of learners showed signs of alcohol dependence. As a result, healthcare providers must implement widespread screening protocols in primary care. Similarly, Indian studies reflect these concerning trends in adolescent wellness. Because the fear of COVID-19 remains a strong predictor of distress, intervention is necessary. Thus, clinicians should address pandemic-related worry during every consultation. In conclusion, the data suggests a lasting crisis that requires urgent attention and integrated care.
