Urgent Update: NMC Extends PG Course Application Deadline for 2026-27

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced a significant extension for the NMC PG Application Deadline for the Academic Year (AY) 2026-2027. This extension applies to submissions for Broad Speciality (BS) and Super Speciality (SS) courses, the establishment of new Postgraduate Medical Institutions, and increasing seats in existing postgraduate medical courses. Consequently, all stakeholders now have additional time to comply with updated regulations and submit their applications.

Revised Application Submission Date

The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the NMC initially issued a Public Notice on March 25, 2026, detailing the application process. This notice has since been revised. Therefore, the last date for submitting applications through the web portal for AY 2026-2027 has been extended to April 20, 2026, until 11:59 PM.

Previously, the deadline was stipulated as March 31, 2026. However, amendments to the Post Graduate Medical Minimum Standard Requirements, 2023 (PGMSR-2023), notified by the Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) on March 12, 2026, came into immediate effect. These revisions necessitate additional time for institutions to align their applications with the new regulatory framework. Consequently, all concerned institutions must note this change and plan accordingly.

Key Areas for Application Submission

This extension covers several crucial areas within postgraduate medical education:

• Starting new Postgraduate medical courses in existing medical institutions.
• Establishing new standalone Postgraduate Medical Institutions.
• Increasing the number of seats in existing Postgraduate medical courses.

Applicants must adhere to the prescribed schedule and submit all required documentation via the NMC's web portal. Only online applications with the necessary enclosures and fees will be accepted; offline submissions are not permitted.

Important Considerations for Applicants

All stakeholders should review the updated PGMSR-2023 regulations carefully. This ensures their applications meet all revised provisions. Additionally, the application process involves several steps, including user registration, payment of a non-refundable registration fee, and accessing and completing the application form.

A unique application number is generated only after successful submission of the complete form, required documents, and online fee payment. Furthermore, incomplete applications will be rejected, and no further communication will be entertained. Therefore, meticulous attention to detail is essential for a successful submission.

Understanding the Assessment Process and Regulations

The assessment process for submitted applications is thorough. It considers the faculty, infrastructure, clinical material, and overall quality of medical education. Thus, institutions must have all infrastructure fully functional at the time of application.
