"Wherever the art of Medicine is loved, there is also a love of Humanity."
— Hippocrates

HealthCare Global Enterprises (HCG) recently expanded its medical footprint by launching a comprehensive cancer hospital in Hebbal, Bengaluru. This modern 132-bed facility marks a significant step forward, aiming to deliver advanced oncology care to the region. Specifically, the new center represents an investment of approximately Rs 129 crore, which HCG financed through internal accruals and debt. Consequently, this launch increases HCG's presence to three hospitals within Bengaluru, strengthening its position in India's highly competitive healthcare market.
At the core of the Hebbal facility is the introduction of Karnataka’s first Elekta Unity MR-LINAC. This technology combines high-field MRI imaging with a precise linear accelerator. Consequently, clinicians can achieve real-time, adaptive radiation therapy for diverse cancer types. Moreover, this system adjusts the radiation beam in real-time, which helps spare surrounding healthy tissues. Importantly, patients can now receive highly personalized therapy that adapts to daily changes in tumor shape and position.
Furthermore, the facility houses several advanced therapeutic and diagnostic departments that prioritize optimal patient outcomes. For instance, the center includes five robotic-assisted operation theatres to facilitate minimally invasive procedures. In addition, the infrastructure features 19 chemotherapy daycare beds, 14 premium bays, and a 15-bed intensive care unit. Therefore, local and international patients gain access to full-spectrum cancer services, from diagnosis to recovery support, under one roof.
Historically, this launch follows KKR's acquisition of a 54% stake in HCG for Rs 3,466 crore last year. Currently, HCG operates approximately 2,500 beds across 25 cancer centers in India. Meanwhile, the chain remains in active negotiations to acquire Siemens Healthineers-owned American Oncology. As a result, HCG continues to scale its presence, offering superior clinical expertise and compassionate patient care.
Q1: What is the significance of the MR-LINAC technology at HCG Hebbal?
The Elekta Unity MR-LINAC technology combines high-field MRI imaging with a linear accelerator. Consequently, this allows clinicians to perform highly precise, real-time, adaptive radiation therapy while sparing surrounding healthy tissues.
Q2: How many beds and specialized units does the new HCG facility in Hebbal feature?
The facility features a capacity of 132 beds. Specifically, it includes five robotic-assisted theatres, 19 chemotherapy daycare beds, 14 premium bays, and a 15-bed ICU.
