Effective endobronchial carcinoid tumour management requires a high level of multidisciplinary collaboration. Consequently, clinicians often combine interventional bronchoscopy with advanced surgical techniques. Initially, a 44-year-old woman presented with haemoptysis and progressive wheezing. However, a subsequent bronchoscopy identified a vascular, pedunculated mass. This lesion nearly occluded the airway entirely. Therefore, the team performed an en bloc resection using electrocautery and a cryoprobe. Furthermore, this intervention enabled immediate airway recanalization and provided a tissue diagnosis. Additionally, endobronchial ultrasound-guided aspiration ruled out nodal involvement. Notably, histopathology confirmed a typical carcinoid tumour.

Optimizing Endobronchial Carcinoid Tumour Management

Subsequently, the patient underwent a robotic-assisted sleeve resection. Moreover, this surgical strategy successfully preserved the lung parenchyma. Consequently, the surgeon achieved negative margins without performing a full pneumonectomy. Furthermore, a surveillance bronchoscopy later showed a well-healed anastomosis. Notably, the patient exhibited no granulation tissue. Therefore, the case demonstrates that bronchoscopic staging is vital. Additionally, it highlights how these tools facilitate lung-sparing surgery. Finally, a multidisciplinary approach ensures the best oncological and functional outcomes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is a multidisciplinary approach used for carcinoid tumours?

A multidisciplinary approach allows for accurate staging via bronchoscopy followed by precise, lung-sparing surgical resection, ensuring optimal patient recovery.

What are the benefits of robotic sleeve resection?

Robotic sleeve resection allows for meticulous dissection and reconstruction, which helps preserve healthy lung tissue while achieving complete tumour removal.
