Second, they likely promote the growth of beneficial bacteria that produce SCFAs. These specific metabolites help enhance insulin sensitivity and reduce systemic inflammation. Consequently, these natural compounds serve as a promising adjunct to standard diabetic care in clinical practice. Furthermore, the 400 mg daily dose used in this study was well-tolerated by the elderly participants, suggesting a high safety profile for long-term use.
While this pilot study provides encouraging data, larger clinical trials are necessary to confirm these results. Indian clinicians should consider these findings when discussing dietary adjuncts with their patients. Proper nutrition remains a cornerstone of diabetes management, and anthocyanin-rich fruits like blueberries offer a functional food approach to metabolic regulation.
