A recent study by Di Dio AM et al. provides new insights into the complex relationship between parenting and youth antisocial behavior. In addition, the results suggest that genetic influences on behavior in middle childhood drive these reductions in positive parenting. Shared familial or environmental confounds also play a role in this association. Consequently, these findings highlight the need for interventions that address the child’s primary symptoms alongside parental support.
