Caring for an adolescent with an eating disorder (ED) is a complex and emotionally demanding journey. Experts recognize that carers are integral to the recovery process. Therefore, the Caregiver Skills CASK scale was developed to measure the specific competencies required by these individuals. This tool helps clinicians identify areas where caregivers may need additional training to better support their loved ones. Recently, researchers sought to validate a Dutch version of this instrument to expand its clinical utility.
The study involved 248 caregivers at a specialized treatment center in the Netherlands. Researchers utilized Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and McDonald's omega to test the scale\'s reliability. Although the full-scale six-factor model did not perfectly replicate the original English version, the individual subscales showed adequate psychometric properties. By addressing these specific gender-related trends, healthcare providers can offer more targeted guidance during the treatment of adolescent eating disorders.
