In fact, recent experimental evidence suggests that red quinoa hydrolysate may serve as a potent plant-based therapeutic against cadmium-induced cardiovascular dysfunction. By addressing oxidative stress and vascular impairment, this pseudocereal-derived bioactive offers a sustainable dietary strategy for mitigating heavy metal toxicity.
Specifically, cadmium (Cd) is a non-essential element that accumulates in the body, primarily triggering endothelial damage and systemic hypertension. In a recent study using male Wistar rats, researchers explored how red quinoa hydrolysate influences vascular reactivity during Cd exposure. They found that co-treatment with the hydrolysate successfully prevented the increase in systolic blood pressure. Moreover, the treatment preserved the bioavailability of nitric oxide, which is essential for maintaining healthy blood vessel dilation.
In addition, the vascular damage caused by cadmium often stems from an inflammatory cascade involving TNF-alpha and COX-2.
