Addressing disparities in patient outcomes requires precise tools and strategic evaluation. A recent study by Alexander CS et al. introduces a Pharmacy Health Equity Scorecard to help clinic-based pharmacists evaluate their contribution to health equity. Traditionally, pharmacists have lacked standardized metrics to demonstrate how their clinical interventions reduce gaps in care. This new framework aims to bridge that gap by providing a reproducible process for indicator selection. Consequently, healthcare systems can now better quantify the value pharmacists bring to underserved populations.
The research team employed a modified Delphi methodology to ensure the validity of the selected indicators. Initially, they conducted an environmental scan to identify potential metrics. Following this, twenty subject matter experts (SMEs) evaluated these indicators based on importance, usability, and validity. The process involved two iterative survey rounds and a final consensus meeting. Although twenty experts were recruited, participation remained high throughout the rounds. Ultimately, the experts reached a consensus on eight primary health indicators that will form the core of the scorecard.
Clinical pharmacists in ambulatory settings are uniquely positioned to address social determinants of health. Moreover, they often manage chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension, where equity gaps are most prominent. By utilizing a standardized
The scorecard provides a standardized tool to evaluate how clinic-based pharmacists impact health equity. It helps identify specific areas where pharmacists successfully close care gaps for marginalized populations.

Ambulatory care pharmacists often provide long-term management for chronic diseases. This tool allows them to objectively demonstrate their value in improving outcomes for diverse patient groups and reducing systemic disparities.
