Identifying pediatric smartphone addiction risks early is essential for healthcare providers. Since children with evening chronotypes are at the highest risk, pediatricians should screen for sleep disturbances when excessive device use is suspected. Moreover, the study indicates that sleep problems and addiction prevalence are lowest in morning-type children. This disparity highlights the potential for chronotype-based interventions in managing digital habits.
Furthermore, managing these risks requires a multi-faceted approach. Physicians should encourage parents to establish consistent sleep routines and limit device access during evening hours. Because evening-type children naturally struggle with early schedules, they may use digital devices as a coping mechanism for boredom or social interaction during late-night hours. Addressing the underlying sleep architecture may therefore reduce the drive toward smartphone and tablet addiction.
