Sublingual immunotherapy benefits patients by addressing the immune system directly. Consequently, the ERAPP real-world study evaluated how these products perform in daily practice. This prospective research followed nearly 5000 participants in France for up to 15 months. Therefore, clinicians can now rely on robust data regarding patient-perceived outcomes.
The study results showed that over 80% of participants achieved clinically relevant benefits. Specifically, 83.8% of children and 84% of adults reached a Patient Benefit Index (PBI) score of at least 1. This high success rate indicates that the treatment met patient expectations effectively. Moreover, researchers noted significant improvements in rhinitis severity and overall symptom burden.
Furthermore, scores for the Total 5-Symptom Score (T5SS) and ARIA severity scales improved beyond defined thresholds. In addition, patients highlighted specific relief from nasal obstruction and noticed better sleep quality. Similarly, asthma control (ACT) improved significantly during the observation period. However, some measures like daytime sleepiness did not reach the minimum important difference.
Although treatment satisfaction increased, the study also found that adherence levels slightly decreased over time. Thus, maintaining long-term patient engagement remains a critical factor for success. In conclusion, the ERAPP study confirms that NPP-SLIT provides sustained and meaningful relief for respiratory allergies. Consequently, doctors should consider patient expectations when designing personalized allergy care plans.
It provides sustained relief from nasal symptoms and improves sleep quality in patients with allergic rhinitis and asthma.
The Patient Benefit Index (PBI) evaluates treatment success by measuring how well a therapy fulfills a patient’s specific needs and expectations.
Yes, both age groups reported high levels of benefit, though children generally reported slightly higher fulfillment across various outcome measures.
