In contrast, gaming for upper limb impairment provides immediate feedback and a sense of achievement. Qualitative data suggests that peer socialization and perceived improvement are key motivators. Therefore, gaming helps patients move beyond the role of a "patient" and into the role of a "gamer." This shift enhances well-being and encourages the long-term adoption of movement-based activities.
Rehabilitation specialists should explore the role of gaming beyond simple therapeutic intervention. Moreover, they should use validated outcome measures to assess how gaming impacts social connection. The review highlights that gaming provides a platform for socialization that traditional therapy lacks. Additionally, researchers emphasize the need for longitudinal studies. We must understand how gaming impacts community participation over time. By viewing gaming as a legitimate occupation, we can design more patient-centric recovery plans.
