Therefore, researchers conducted a 90-day nose-only study in rats to evaluate the potential for lung toxicity. The study results showed that lung toxicity remained minimal even at high concentrations. Although histopathological analysis revealed particle-laden macrophages, the authors interpreted these findings as adaptive rather than adverse. Furthermore, the analysis of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) showed no significant increase in inflammatory markers. Consequently, the study determined a No Observed Adverse Effect Concentration (NOAEC) of 24 mg/m³.
Because the findings indicate low toxicity, experts now classify diniobium pentaoxide as a nuisance dust. This means that while industrial exposure must be monitored, the substance does not trigger severe pathological changes at the studied levels. Consequently, these results provide a clear benchmark for setting occupational exposure limits in manufacturing environments.
