Compared to highly active, normal-weight individuals, diabetes prevalence increased with lower PA and higher BMI, with adjusted prevalence ratios (APRs) of 1.09 (nonactive, normal weight) to 3.17 (nonactive, Class III obesity). BMI was a stronger predictor of diabetes than physical activity, which provided only modest risk reduction.
