This comprehensive review analysed 375 randomized trials involving 32,968 adults to evaluate cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) across 11 mental disorders. The effect sizes varied by diagnosis: Hedges’ \(g\) ranged from 0.31 for bipolar disorder to 1.27 for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). CBT showed moderate-to-large effects for depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder and eating disorders, while effects were smaller for psychotic and bipolar disorders. Results were generally larger in wait-list-controlled trials than in trials using usual care as the comparator, where effects ranged from 0.22 to 1.13. Dropout rates within CBT arms varied from 8% for specific phobia to 24% for PTSD. The authors concluded that CBT is probably effective for several major mental disorders, although substantial heterogeneity, variable study quality and publication bias in some diagnostic groups warrant cautious interpretation.

New research reveals that non-ablative radiotherapy suppresses ventricular tachycardia by increasing conduction velocity via NaV1.5 upregulation and action potential prolongation. However, sustained sodium current elevation and depressed calcium handling highlight the need for careful clinical translation.
