Moreover, the cumulative dose played a critical role in determining the metabolic outcome. Patients with higher total exposure over a three-year period exhibited a more pronounced risk profile. Consequently, clinicians must evaluate both the duration and the potency of steroid therapy when managing patients with existing metabolic risk factors. Therefore, prioritizing the lowest effective dose for the shortest period is a vital preventive strategy.
These findings underscore the importance of metabolic monitoring for patients requiring steroid therapy. Additionally, healthcare providers should remain vigilant regarding the potential for hyperglycemia even with topical dermatologic treatments. Early screening and lifestyle interventions might mitigate some of the steroid-induced risks. Ultimately, balancing therapeutic benefits against long-term metabolic health remains a cornerstone of prudent clinical practice.
