Good news for medical aspirants! The National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced the approval of additional NMC PG Seats for Post-Graduate (Super-Specialty) courses for the Academic Year (AY) 2025-26. This significant update comes after decisions made by the First Appeal Committee, streamlining the admission process for numerous medical colleges and institutions across India.
Consequently, the Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) of NMC issued a public notice, dated April 4, 2026, confirming these newly granted seats. This notice acts as a crucial document for the upcoming counselling process.
The NMC's communication, also dated April 5, 2026, directs all concerned stakeholders, including medical colleges and counselling authorities, to acknowledge this development. Significantly, the Letters of Permission (LOPs) for these sanctioned PG seats for AY 2025-26 will be issued shortly. However, counselling authorities need not delay; they can include these seats in the counselling process immediately, utilizing the official list as a valid document.
This proactive approach aims to prevent procedural hurdles and ensure timely admissions into super-specialty programs. Earlier instances have shown delays in LOPs can slow down the entire admission cycle. Therefore, this directive is a welcome relief for thousands of medical aspirants.
The First Appeal Committee thoroughly examined appeals preferred by medical colleges under Section 28(5) of the NMC Act, 2019. Based on these reviews, several institutions received approvals for additional seats across various super-specialties. For example, MGM Medical College & Hospital, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Aurangabad, gained 2 seats in M.Ch-HepatoPancreato Biliary Surgery. Similarly, Government Medical College, Amritsar, Punjab, received 1 additional seat in DM-Cardiology.
Furthermore, M.K. Shah Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Ahmedabad, secured 2 additional M.Ch-Urology seats. Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, Karad, Maharashtra, also saw 1 additional M.Ch-Urology seat approved. Finally, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College, Jabalpur, M.P., received 2 additional DM-Cardiology seats.
This decision underscores the NMC's commitment to expanding postgraduate medical education and addressing the healthcare demands of the nation. Medical colleges must promptly update their seat matrix and proceed with admissions based on this approved list. Aspiring super-specialists should regularly check the NMC and Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) websites for further updates and specific counselling schedules. This move is expected to enhance opportunities for candidates seeking admission to super-speciality medical courses nationwide.
