Ectoparasites like fleas and ticks are ubiquitous across India, posing significant risks to both veterinary and human health. Effective zoonotic parasite prevention strategies are essential to mitigate the transmission of rickettsial and bacterial pathogens. A recent study evaluated a novel endectocide, Credelio Quattro™, demonstrating its high efficacy against common canine infestations that often bridge the gap to human hosts.
The study utilized four masked trials to assess the efficacy of the combination tablet containing lotilaner, moxidectin, praziquantel, and pyrantel. Researchers administered the oral dose to dogs in a fed state on Day 0. Following treatment, the team observed a 100% reduction in flea counts through Day 35. Furthermore, the drug eliminated over 98.6% of ticks throughout the 30-day observation period. These results highlight a robust defense against Ctenocephalides felis and Rhipicephalus sanguineus, the latter being a primary vector for Indian Tick Typhus.
Managing pet infestations is a cornerstone of the "One Health" approach currently emphasized by the National One Health Mission in India. Heavy flea and tick burdens not only cause pruritus and blood loss in pets but also increase the environmental reservoir for pathogens like Rickettsia conorii and Bartonella henselae. Consequently, monthly administration of broad-spectrum endectocides simplifies compliance for pet owners. This integrated approach ensures that pets remain healthy while simultaneously shielding human household members from vector-borne threats.
Moreover, the 7-in-1 coverage provided by this formulation addresses internal parasites, including heartworms and hookworms. This comprehensive profile reduces the need for multiple separate medications, thereby improving adherence to preventative protocols. By maintaining a parasite-free environment within the home, clinicians can effectively reduce the incidence of preventable zoonotic infections.
By eliminating fleas and ticks on household pets, these treatments reduce the vector population that can transmit rickettsial and bacterial diseases to human owners.
The study demonstrated 100% efficacy against fleas for 35 days and sustained protection against ticks for at least 30 days post-administration.
