Limbal stem cell deficiency causes persistent epithelial failure, vascularisation, scarring and visual impairment. A systematic review of clinical regenerative-medicine studies in humans found that most published work involved cultured limbal epithelial cell transplantation, with additional experience in oral mucosal epithelial transplantation. Ocular-surface reconstruction and visual improvement were reported in a substantial proportion of treated eyes, but the studies were heterogeneous in patient selection, treatment protocols, outcome definitions and follow-up. This makes it difficult to determine whether one regenerative strategy is consistently superior. The findings are important for HCPs because the field is rapidly evolving, yet treatment decisions still require careful consideration of disease laterality, aetiology, residual limbal tissue, ocular surface inflammation and the availability of specialist centres. The review supports a cautious, evidence-based approach to cell therapy rather than assuming that all stem-cell-based procedures are equivalent. It aligns directly with AIOC's ocular-surface and limbal-stem-cell themes.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm rupture remains a catastrophic vascular emergency. Groundbreaking research reveals that USP53 accelerates aneurysm progression by reprogramming smooth muscle cell metabolism toward aerobic glycolysis, highlighting a promising target beyond conventional diameter-based surveillance.

Recent research defines ferro-aging as a conserved iron-lipid axis driving organ decline across primates. Age-related iron dyshomeostasis stimulates ACSL4-mediated lipid peroxidation, promoting cellular senescence. Notably, vitamin C directly inhibits ACSL4, suppressing phospholipid oxidation and multi-organ decay.
