A prospective randomized multicentre trial compared two extended-depth-of-focus intraocular lenses with a conventional monofocal lens after bilateral cataract surgery. The EDOF lenses were designed to provide a broader range of useful vision rather than the conventional distance-focused profile of a monofocal implant. The study found that both EDOF approaches could provide distance vision comparable to the monofocal control while improving intermediate and, to a lesser extent, near vision. The TECNIS Symfony group also had a high degree of spectacle independence, with relatively low rates of bothersome dysphotopsia reported during follow-up. The clinical message is not that EDOF lenses eliminate all trade-offs. Patients can still experience halos, glare or reduced contrast compared with a purely monofocal strategy, and expectations need to be aligned with the intended visual range. For HCPs, the paper supports using EDOF lenses selectively in patients who value intermediate function—such as computer work and dashboard vision—while understanding the optical compromises. The study is strongly aligned with AIOC's premium-IOL and presbyopia-correcting cataract themes.

Recent research defines ferro-aging as a conserved iron-lipid axis driving organ decline across primates. Age-related iron dyshomeostasis stimulates ACSL4-mediated lipid peroxidation, promoting cellular senescence. Notably, vitamin C directly inhibits ACSL4, suppressing phospholipid oxidation and multi-organ decay.
