This prospective randomised controlled trial evaluated controlled decompression versus standard decompression in patients with severe traumatic brain injury. Of 245 patients screened, 148 were included: 77 in the controlled-decompression group and 71 in the control group. Cerebral perfusion was assessed using computed tomography perfusion at multiple postoperative time points, while middle cerebral artery blood flow velocity was monitored using transcranial Doppler. Follow-up assessments were conducted at 6 and 12 months. Cerebral blood flow and cerebral blood volume increased significantly in the controlled-decompression group at all assessed time points, whereas mean transit time decreased over time without a significant between-group difference. Mean blood flow velocity on the decompression side was consistently lower in the controlled-decompression group. Neurological outcomes assessed using the Glasgow Outcome Scale–Extended were better in the controlled-decompression group at both 6 and 12 months. The findings suggest that controlled decompression may improve postoperative cerebral microcirculation and long-term neurological recovery compared with standard decompression.

A breakthrough study shows that oral intestinal ROS scavenging using black phosphorus nanosheets restores gut microbiota balance and increases kynurenic acid. This metabolite activates AhR signaling to correct Treg/Th17 dysregulation and alleviate rheumatoid arthritis progression.

An all-printed immunosensing microchip detects urinary sFlt-1 in just 10 minutes with 3.61 pg/mL sensitivity. By leveraging photonic bandgap engineering, this low-cost, cleanroom-free platform provides non-invasive preeclampsia screening, offering substantial benefits for point-of-care obstetric triage.

New research reveals that non-ablative radiotherapy suppresses ventricular tachycardia by increasing conduction velocity via NaV1.5 upregulation and action potential prolongation. However, sustained sodium current elevation and depressed calcium handling highlight the need for careful clinical translation.

Recent research defines ferro-aging as a conserved iron-lipid axis driving organ decline across primates. Age-related iron dyshomeostasis stimulates ACSL4-mediated lipid peroxidation, promoting cellular senescence. Notably, vitamin C directly inhibits ACSL4, suppressing phospholipid oxidation and multi-organ decay.
