Children living with heart disease often face significant emotional challenges and psychological stress. Therefore, the implementation of efficient pediatric anxiety screening tools has become a priority for specialized clinics. Traditional assessments, such as the Screen for Child Anxiety Related Emotional Disorders (SCARED), are frequently too long for a busy outpatient environment. Consequently, a recent study sought to validate a briefer alternative to improve the screening process for these vulnerable patients.
Anxiety disorders are prevalent among children with congenital, arrhythmic, and acquired heart diseases. However, many clinicians struggle to fit mental health evaluations into routine cardiac follow-ups. This study specifically evaluated the concurrent validity of the Pediatric-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Pediatric Anxiety (PROMIS-Anx) tool. The results of the validation study suggest that PROMIS-Anx is highly effective and reliable. Furthermore, the tool significantly reduces the time burden on both patients and healthcare providers.
