The current pandemic of SARS-CoV‑2 Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a challenge for diabetes patients. Diabetes is one of the most common comorbidities in persons with COVID-19, with an incidence ranging from 7 to 30%. Diabetes mellitus makes the condition more severe and doubles the COVID-19 mortality risk owing to pulmonary and cardiac involvement.
